August & one big photo dump

Just as I catch up on posts for July, now August is gone.  So I have decided to do a photo dump for the whole month of August.

Augusts big events were a day trip to San Diego for a breweries anniversary celebration and a night in Vegas to see Celine Dion and both of these events fell on the same weekend.  Other than our one very busy weekend we did some shopping for new shoes, several trips to the pool, and I got the guts to body wave/perm my hair.

Our trip to San Diego was a blast.  We had a babysitter for the day and met with some friends for beer tasting and some delicious food.  Luckily, the brewery wanted people to be responsible and have a DD (which was me of course) and had some amazing food and home brewed sodas for us responsible ones.

Our trip to Vegas was an anniversary gift to me from Gil.  A good friend watch B for us while we went out to dinner and saw Celine Dion's show.  It was a really good show.  She has one of the most powerful and pure voices.  Even for those who aren't big fans (Gil) the show was still entertaining.

That about sums up this past month.  Next month, little B turns TWO!  She is definitely entering toddler-hood!  Naps seem to be disappearing from her day and defiance is her new thing.

That's all for now, enjoy our photo dump from this weekend (and all others in August.)

Visit from Grandma & Grandpa

July was a very busy month for us.  After our 4th of July visitors and our trip to the Safari Park, my parents came to visit for a few days.  They were headed back east after a business trip to Hawaii.  It was a really low key trip since this wasn't their first visit to the dessert and all of its tourist attractions.  The days mostly consisted of B taking them all over the house and outside to play.  During nap times my mom helped me make my very first piece of clothing for B.  I love how it turned out.  We also went to Gil's softball game one night (the one place in the dessert were they have beautiful grass, we loved it!)  In the end we were sad to see them leave; until next time.

Below are a few photos from their visit.

Safari Park

We have been talking about going to the Safari Park for a while now and finally made it the weekend after our visitors left.  We found at that you can camp at the park and that is definitely on our bucket list before we leave the desert.

We were excited to escape the blistering heat but sadly we left the heat and entered into the humidity.  Over all the day was beautiful.  We took the train through the safari then wandered around to check out the other exhibits.  They had all sorts of special events going on for summer so we saw a few different African dance groups which was fun.  The animals seem a lot easier to spot at the Safari Park vs. the San Diego Zoo but I don't think I like it more (which most people said they definitely liked it better than the zoo.)

We didn't stay long enough to see the cheetah run but we did feed some birds and ducks which Aubrie enjoyed.  Her other favorite animal was the meerkats.

Below are a few photos from our day at the Park.

4th of July with the McFarland's

I have been really bad about blogging this month but that is likely because we have been very busy and have had lots of visitors.  I am going to catch up and do a few different posts about our activities this month; starting with 4th of July and our visit from the McFarland's.

The McFarland's lived with us in Hawaii and came up to the desert to visit us for the 4th.  I didn't realize how much I missed them until they came and visited.  Not only do I get along great with Mer but Gil gets along and has a lot in common with Pat.  We also will always have the connection of our Hawaii born babies.
For the 4th we also had our friends the Godby's over who were also in Hawaii and now live in the desert with us.  We had a nice BBQ and watched the babies as they reunited now as toddlers.

We also took the McFarland's to our rock for a little rock climbing.  I they not only surprised us but I think they really surprised themselves with how well they did.  It was a great to be at the rock with people who were so excited and willing to try.  The kids had fun eating and drinking and occasionally cheering us on at the rock.

The last morning they were visiting we headed to the splash pad on base.  Sure enough, Aubrie still isn't a big fan but Parker had a great time.  The second we opened the gate he went running for the water and didn't leave till we dragged him out.  We continued the water fun at home while we got lunch ready.  They were so cute playing together.

We really tired Parker out.  He couldn't even stay awake through lunch or Aubrie trying shaking him awake.  There was no waking poor, tired little P.

We had a great time hosting the McFarland's and miss having them live just down the road.  Hopefully we will meet up again at some point in our military careers and I hope that is sooner rather than later.
